Family Christmas Presents 2009

I decided to do something slightly crazy this Christmas, and design an individual "kit" for each member of my family. It was a lot of work, but I am pretty happy with the end result, and I think my family liked them as well.

MySims Agents: October Nintendo Power




I've been meaning to post this for a while, but I've been so busy living in the world of The Sims 3 Expansion Pack as well as an additional Stuff Pack that I've been a bit distracted. Late summer and into fall much of my time was consumed by created the MySims Agents print as well as a slew of online banner ads.

We were on the inside cover of Nintendo Power— the only publication we were in for the U.S.. This campaign ran in both the US and in Europe.

EA Dante's Inferno: Community Event Day


It has taken me too long to post this since this work occurred back in May, but alas, here it is. Back in May EA had a community day for their new video game called Dante's Inferno. They invited 11 different influential people from 9 different websites to visit EA and become familiar with the game. We wanted to make their trip worth while, and so we gave them some goodies.

By the end of the event, they had their own personalized ID Badge, T-Shirt, copy of Dante's Inferno book decorated to correspond to one of the levels of Hell, Airport chauffeur card, Itinerary, Non-disclosure agreement (NDA), and a bookmark.

I was lucky enough to get put on this project from square one, so I got to design a lot of the elements that came out of it. I created the badges, chauffeur cards, itinerary, and NDA, while a small team worked on the books.

Below is one of the chauffeur signs. There was one trip from the airport that included 4 people at once, so I attached their signs together with s-hooks.


Each person got a level of hell assigned to them. Their level appeared on their badges, and corresponded to the book they received. Each badge had it's own etching from the book on the front, and a image on the back pertaining to their level of hell in the game. Badges were also made for EA and W+K people involved in the event. The badges were color coded to help eliminate confusion of who's who.

In keeping with the "old" theme throughout, we decided to make the paperwork integrated in the overall experience. These documents were stained with coffee and creased while wet to make them appear more distressed. Below is the NDA (Non-disclosure Agreement). They received this rolled up like a scroll, bound in leather.


I designed the itinerary small enough to fit in the pocket of their badge. And it dawned the "D" for Dante seal.


Overall this was a really fun project. I most of the work above over the course of a week, while the books were being made.

The event was a success! The guests enjoyed their goodies and many of them went home to write about their experience on their own sites. The game has yet to be released, but keep your eyes and ears open! You'll begin to hear more and more about it in the coming months.

The Sims 3 Launch



The last couple months at Wieden+Kennedy I've been working on The Sims 3 ad campaign for it’s June 2nd Release. We began releasing the OOH (Out Of Home) a few weeks ago and it has been popping up all over the country on a little over 30 billboards/walls of various shapes and sizes.

The OOH is running in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Bentonville, and Chicago. The two pictured here are located in New York (by Times Square) and LA.

I just got done releasing the print for magazine ads to Europe on Friday, so we should be seeing those appear in the upcoming weeks. The print elaborates on the OOH teaser, and will bring a new visual level to the campaign.
